The Lockdown Variety Show

19/06/2020 • ypwqhlle

During these difficult times theatre and the arts are suffering.  Theatres are closed and performance venues don’t know when they can reopen.  Professional and amateur shows have had to be cancelled or postponed.  Sparkle have had their own performance of Much Ado About Nothing postponed to next year but we are staying positive.

Over the past few weeks our members (and some friends) have been recording performances as part of a variety show which premiers tonight (19th June 2020) at 6pm.  All participants have had to source their own costumes, props and set for their performances.  We have had contributions from our wonderful patron, Liz Webster, and a friend of Sparkle Theatre, international ventriloquist Shane West as well as other friends of Sparkle.

Sit back, grab the popcorn, and we hope you enjoy our little show (we expected a show about 40 minutes long – it is actually a full show at 1hr 20 mins).

Mamma Mia! What a ‘Much Ado About Nothing’

30/01/2020 • ypwqhlle

Well, the new year has started, and Sparkle Theatre is already looking forward to its two big productions this year.  2019 was a great year for this little theatre group and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ was a huge success, with an additional performance added at the Pavilion Club in Stockingford, and extra dates along with sold out performances at the home of Sparkle Theatre, St Peter’s Church, Galley Common.

During the past few weeks the focus has been on theatre technique and other roles within theatre.  We have looked at projection, and how to project successfully and safely (it is important that projection isn’t confused with shouting).  We have also looked at backstage roles and the importance of understanding health and safety within the theatre or venue.  At Sparkle Theatre we believe everyone should experience all of theatre, not just what is involved on stage.

And so ……. ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ with a twist! The songs of Abba lend themselves so well to this play, and so we are combining the two for our summer show this year, which will take place 25th-27th June 2020 in St Peter’s Church, Galley Common.  Tickets will go on sale in the next few weeks.  We have had a lot of fun during the past few weeks studying Shakespearean insults and looking at the language used.  It isn’t too late to join us for this Shakespearean comedy.  Auditions are on the 8th February, and further information can be found on our Facebook page.

We are also already planning and writing our next pantomime, ‘Robin Hood’.  Performance dates are confirmed for 2nd-5th December 2020 with a matinee on the Saturday.  Further details, updates and more exciting news will follow later in the year regarding this project.

Sparkle Theatre Choir will be joining the main theatre group for ‘Much Ado’ and have already started work on the songs.  They are also on a quest as their next concert (date to be confirmed) will have that as its theme, and all money raised from this concert will be donated to the Sparkle Theatre’s chosen charity – Cancer Research UK. Their last concert (28th November 2019) raised £100 for Cancer Research.

So from all at Sparkle Theatre….. Happy New Year! And we look forward to seeing you (either with us on stage or in the audience) during 2020.

19/10/2019 • ypwqhlle

We are thrilled to announce an extra date for our 2019 pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.  This extra date will not be at St Peter’s Church, Galley Common, but will be at The Pavilion Club in Stockingford, Nuneaton on 22nd December 2019. Tickets for this extra date will only be available from The Pavilion Club itself, and Sparkle Theatre are excited to have been asked to perform our pantomime so close to Christmas.

So get ready to meet Dame Trott, Fairy Timey Wimey and a host of similarly ludicrous characters in a rip roaring family pantomime, with a twist.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – opens next week!

06/12/2018 • ypwqhlle

What a whirlwind the past few months have been.  Who would have thought back in August that Sparkle Theatre would be presenting it’s first show next week! All of the cast and the production team have worked so hard to put the show together.  Sparkle Theatre rehearse one night a week – Tuesday’s between 7.30-9pm – and there will have been 14 weeks rehearsal time.  Some Sparklies joined the group 7 weeks ago and have been amazing, learning the routines, script etc.  For almost 50% of the cast this will be their first EVER show. I am incredibly proud of them all.

So next week we will present our version of the classic tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  Friday night has sold out.  Tickets are still available for Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th December, but are selling fast. Tickets can be purchased from the Sparkle Theatre Shop page – just select your preferred date (12th or 13th December).

Look out for some more exciting Sparkle Theatre news to be announced next week!

Sparkle Theatre’s first rehearsal success

05/09/2018 • ypwqhlle

What a FAB first rehearsal!! It was great to meet everyone – those who had attended the taster session and some new faces too.

The opening number is choreographed!  We have a second number almost finished, but certainly learnt vocal wise. Our patron, Elizabeth Webster, had a great time, and commented on how much talent and potential there was.  It is our role to harness that potential and ‘MAKE YOU SHINE!’

It is never too late to join.  Sparkle Theatre is an inclusive, fun, family orientated society for anyone 5+ – children and adults!  Come along and ‘SPARKLE’ with us! Have a look at the rehearsals page for more details.
