Mamma Mia! What a ‘Much Ado About Nothing’

30/01/2020 • ypwqhlle

Well, the new year has started, and Sparkle Theatre is already looking forward to its two big productions this year.  2019 was a great year for this little theatre group and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ was a huge success, with an additional performance added at the Pavilion Club in Stockingford, and extra dates along with sold out performances at the home of Sparkle Theatre, St Peter’s Church, Galley Common.

During the past few weeks the focus has been on theatre technique and other roles within theatre.  We have looked at projection, and how to project successfully and safely (it is important that projection isn’t confused with shouting).  We have also looked at backstage roles and the importance of understanding health and safety within the theatre or venue.  At Sparkle Theatre we believe everyone should experience all of theatre, not just what is involved on stage.

And so ……. ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ with a twist! The songs of Abba lend themselves so well to this play, and so we are combining the two for our summer show this year, which will take place 25th-27th June 2020 in St Peter’s Church, Galley Common.  Tickets will go on sale in the next few weeks.  We have had a lot of fun during the past few weeks studying Shakespearean insults and looking at the language used.  It isn’t too late to join us for this Shakespearean comedy.  Auditions are on the 8th February, and further information can be found on our Facebook page.

We are also already planning and writing our next pantomime, ‘Robin Hood’.  Performance dates are confirmed for 2nd-5th December 2020 with a matinee on the Saturday.  Further details, updates and more exciting news will follow later in the year regarding this project.

Sparkle Theatre Choir will be joining the main theatre group for ‘Much Ado’ and have already started work on the songs.  They are also on a quest as their next concert (date to be confirmed) will have that as its theme, and all money raised from this concert will be donated to the Sparkle Theatre’s chosen charity – Cancer Research UK. Their last concert (28th November 2019) raised £100 for Cancer Research.

So from all at Sparkle Theatre….. Happy New Year! And we look forward to seeing you (either with us on stage or in the audience) during 2020.
